Santa Maria is a large active volcano in the western highlands of Guatemala, in Quetzaltenango (Xela). The volcano is part of the Sierra Madre chain, which extends along the western edge of Guatemala between the pacific ocean and the highlands. The volcanoes are formed by the subduction of the Cocos Plate under the Caribbean Plate, which has led to the formation of the Central American Volcanic Arc. Hiking to the top you will be met with outstanding views of the Volcanic arc. The highest summit is 3,772m above sea level. The tour will start from Xela, where your guide will pick you up.
