Description

This natural colossus is the highest from the three Volcanoes facing to the Southwest of lake Atitlán, its altitude is 3537m above sea level. The Volcano has a 250m diameter crater and in the highest part there is several cracks result from the latest eruption occurred in the year 1853.

During a lucky day it is possible to observe the smoke expulsing in few quantity gasses from the top.

The top of the Volcano offers one of the best views in the dry season. To observe the landscape from the higher part is the best way to appreciate the Volcanic chain of Guatemala.

For this really special hike we can propose you two options.

First option

  • 00:00 Picking up at your hotel in Santiago Atitlan and transfer to the entrance of the hike.
  • 00:30am Arrival to the entrance begin of the ascension for about 5hrs hike.
  • 5:00am Arrival at the top to admire the sunrise.
  • 6:00am Begin of the descent for about 3hrs hike.
  • 9:00am End of the hike and transfer back to your hotel in Santiago Atitlan.

Second option

  • 6:00am Picking up at your hotel in Santiago Atitlan and transfer to the entrance of the hike.
  • 6:30am Arrival to the entrance begin of the ascension for about 5hrs hike.
  • 11:00am Arrival at the top to admire the view and lunch time (included).
  • 12:00pm Begin of the descent for about 3hrs hike.
  • 3:00pm End of the hike and transfer back to your hotel in Santiago Atitlan.
