Santa Maria is a large active volcano in the western highlands of Guatemala, in Xela. The volcano is part of the Sierra Madre chain, which extends along the western edge of Guatemala between the pacific ocean and the highlands. The volcanoes are formed by the subduction of the Cocos Plate under the Caribbean Plate, which has led to the formation of the Central American Volcanic Arc. Hiking to the top you will be met with outstanding views of the Volcanic arc. The highest summit is 3,772m above sea level. The tour will start from Xela, where your guide will pick you up.

  • 6:00am Pick-up from your hotel in Xela by private transfer to Llanos del Pinal.
  • 6:30am Arrive at Llanos del Pinal to begin the ascent for approximately 5 hours.
  • 11:30am Arrive to the top and admire the view.
  • 12:30pm Begin descent for approximately 3 hours.
  • 3:30pm Arrive at Llanos del Pinal and private transfer back to Xela.
